How Can I Heal From Medical Trauma?

  • There are many steps that can be taken to heal from trauma- there is so much beauty in the healing work that we are able to do and the growth that comes from it.

  • Post-traumatic growth refers to the growth that we experience after trauma as we heal, and can be experienced as changes specific to one or more of the following: personal strength, closer relationships, greater appreciation for life, new possibilities, and spiritual development.

  • Although we may not be able to prevent our trauma, and we can’t change what has happened to us, it can be encouraging to remember that post-traumatic growth is possible, healing is possible, and that growth from trauma, seen as breaking free from the parts of trauma that may feel overwhelming and consuming, is also possible! So, let’s heal!!

  • When it comes to healing from trauma, the path is not linear, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

  • It is also important to note that because individuals in our community may continue to be traumatized on occasion, there may be times when our trauma is re-activated, and new wounds develop regardless of how much we have healed.

  • Although healing our wounds is possible, we may continue to be more vulnerable to certain triggers. It is important for us to be mindful of what coping strategies help and what self-care tools and strategies we may need to immerse ourselves in, as we regularly check in with ourselves.

  • We recommend looking into medical trauma therapy options when considering various healing opportunities!
